Checkered damask linen from the convent St. Flour
in Auvergne. As members of the contemplative sisterhood of Carmelite nuns,
young girls would be expected to continue working their skills as homemakers
to meet the needs of the community, as well as their own. These kitchen
towels or large napkins demonstrate the homespinning and embroidery skill of
these industrious women. Each is embroidered with the initial P in a
slightly different font!
